Flickr Uploader
Adding the Pictures You Want to Upload
Flickr Uploader is not capable of transferring images from your camera to your computer, and will in most cases not be able to access your photos directly from the camera. The photos that you would like to upload to your Flickr account are simply added by drag & drop to the upper area of Flickr Uploader's main window. Flickr Uploader is able to show you how many images you have added their totale size. This is especially important for those of you that are using the free account. The free account is limited to a 20 MB monthly upload limit (bandwidth, not diskspace). The account can only be devided in to 3 photosets and only the 200 most recently uploaded images will be able others.
Flickr Uploader doesn't have all the features that the originale Flickr Uploadr for Windows and MacOS X have. In the officiale versions you can set the tools to upload the pictures in their originale sizes or set the tools to automatically resize the longest side or get asked what you want to do for each photo larger then 800px.
Information About You and Your Flickr Account
The second part of the screenshot above, shows you that the author of this manual has a Flickr PRO account. This account type has a 2 GB monthly upload limit, but no limits on photosets, bandwidth and storage, and all images can be available for others.
A progressbar indicates how much of your monthly upload bandwidth you have used. This information is also available in percent and bytes.
Adding Name, Tags and Description to Your Pictures
Traditionally we have stored and browsed our photos by their physical location. Flickr changes that, so let us introduce you to the term tag(s). A tag is a keyword or a term that we assigned to a picture or a set of pictures that describes the item and enables keyword-based classification of information it is applied to. Tags are simply an easier way to remember photos, and they will later help you and others to find relevant pictures. Typical examples of tags are holidays, Budapest and friends, but you can also add terms as tags, as for instance "holidays 2006". As you can add multiple tags to each picture, the caste in Budapest will appear both when you search on the tags Budapest and holidays. You don't have to remember the URLs to the pictures you post on an Internet site, on Flickr a tag or two is enough!
Just as you put down some work on finding some suiting tags for your pictures, you should take the time to give them cool titles and descriptions. This increases the chances of people noticing your pictures and that they give you feedbacks. And this is what Flickr is all about, a community viewing each others photos.
In Flickr, you can easily invite your friends and family, which automatically creates an account for them, so only they can see your photos or comment on them. You can also decide to make the photos publicly available for all viewers or completly private. The choices are in other words yours.
