IconToFile

What IconToFile Is

IconToFile does exactly what it sounds like it does: it takes the icons for your application and copies them into files (.jpg JPEG files, to be precise). Useful for preparing websites and the like (see the IconToFile product webpages for an example).

No editting capabilities are available. This is strictly conversion, folks. For editting icons in R4, invoke FileTypes on your application or resource file, double-click the icon well, and edit to your heart's content. [Yes, that's what happened to IconWorld.]

How To Use IconToFile

Using IconToFile is simple, as one would expect.

  1. Start the IconToFile application.
  2. From the 'Action' menu, select 'Convert' [shortcut: Alt-C].
  3. Select the application whose icons you wish to copy out as JPEGs, using the open-file panel.
  4. An alert box will pop up, telling you either the icons were converted or that something happened. Usually, this occurs because the file chosen does not have an icon in attribute or resource.
  5. The files for "app" are "appL.jpg" for the large icon, and "appM.jpg" for the mini icon.

If IconToFile could not create the JPEGs in the same directory as the chosen file, it will put up a save-file panel to allow you to choose a different directory.
