BeSetiStat Repair Kit
READ THIS FIRST !
As you might have discovered, all
your binaries on your BeOS system became infected... (if it dind't
happen, thank god, stop reading and go do something else!).
No, don't panic, it's not a virus, it's just me, a young developer
with little knowledge. I have forgotten to change the signature of
my Application BeSetiStat to an own signature, but i have played
around and gave it an own icon. This got us so far, that since
BeSetiStat 1.0 is a Teminal application, it had the mime type
"application/x-vnd.Be-elfexecutable", and since this mime type was
associated with the stadard BeOS executable all your binaries might
have got the Icon of BeSetistat. (This mostly happens when you
double clicked on the binary in the tracker ... what you don't need
to do, because it is a terminal application.)
This should look like this in you /boot/beos/bin folder than:
Now, since you have downloaded the new Version this won't
happen anymore, because the new Verion has it's own mime type :
"application/x-vnd.benib.BeSetiStat".
To fix the old problem do this:
( Read on only if your ../bin folder looks like int he imeage up there).
1)
Delete the old BeSetiathome binary... not the one you just downloaded, the old one
:~)
2)
Go into the Preferences Menu and run "FileTypes", this will get you to the
dialog of every filetype registred in the system. Look for the
BeSetiStat entry in the application menu. Where you find it, like
showing in the picture down here, push "Remove".
When done with this.
Reboot your
system.
3)
Now everything should be ok again, and your /boot/beos/bin folder
should look like this:

This worked for me. I hope
it helps you too. I don't know if this is the best, or the cleanest
solution, but it works, if you have doubts, please contact you
local BeOS consultant or a person of your choice. Not me, that's
all i know :-)
You should not change anything in the mime types of your system
normaly, if you don't know what you are working with. So if you do
what is described here, be aware, that you do it entierly at your
own risk. You have been warned....
