3ivx D4 4.5 Video Codec for BeOS

What is 3ivx?
3ivx video is a modern MPEG-4 video compression system which allows high quality video in unprecedented file sizes.

You can store over 2 hours of near DVD quality video on a single CD-ROM or stream near DVD quality video over a cable modem or DSL modem.

Why should I install 3ivx?
The 3ivx D4 4.5 Decoder plays back DivX 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, OpenDivX, XviD, FFMpeg, AngelPotion, SMR, Philips MPEG-4, Apple MPEG-4, MS-MPEG-4v3, 3ivx D3, D3.5 and 4, RealMagic MPEG-4, Sorenson MPEG-4, Blizzard MPEG-4 and other MPEG-4 variants.

The 3ivx encoder produces industry-leading compact high quality MPEG-4 video and is distributed as a plug-in for the BeOS Media Architecture. We recommed the use of VideoPro for encoding purposes.

What are the requirements?
3ivx for BeOS requires BeOS for Intel. A seperate decoder for BeOS for PowerPC is available.

How do I install this?
Double click the installer and follow the on screen instructions.

Restart the media service and you are ready to go.

Uninstalling
Remove "3ivx.encoder" from /boot/home/config/add-ons/media/encoders
Remove "3ivx.decoder" from /boot/home/config/add-ons/media/decoders
Remove "3ivx" from /boot/apps/

Developers Notes
General
This software works on our machines. We do not guarantee that it will work on yours.

This software is based on the BeOS codec API. We asked Be Inc for it and they very nicely provided it to us, after we signed an NDA. No you cannot get a copy.

Usage
The decoder should just work with any player that uses the media kit.

The encoder should also work with any program that uses the media kit. However, there is only one program that we know of that will use the encoder configuration window and that is VideoPro. Any program that supplies a quality setting to the encoder will use the default mode of Constant Quality.

In the future we might release a transcoding application that displays the configuration window. As far as we know, 3ivx is the only encoder that utilises this part of the API.

Speed
All intel versions will utilise MMX, SSE, SSE2 if available on your machine.
